Technology

The technology is deliberately plain: web applications, a relational database, and strict rules about provenance.

Separate domain models

Political records, legal instruments and court cases, and statistical datasets and observations are separate kinds of entity. They are not merged into one generic record type. Each platform runs as its own public website with its own domain.

Ingestion and storage

  • Records are ingested from official, machine-readable sources where they exist: official APIs, open-data feeds and gazettes.
  • Ingestion runs separately from the public websites. Public pages are served from the stored database, not live from government APIs.
  • Each record keeps its official URL and source identifiers.

Provenance and relations

A connection between two records carries a method: official reference, identifier match, explicit link, rule-based, manual, inferred or AI-suggested. Only an official reference may be presented as official. Derived and inferred connections are labelled as such.

Translation

Where a translated view is offered, it is machine-generated and labelled as such, and the original text and source remain available.

AI

OrbisRepo does not present AI-generated content as official. Where AI is used to suggest a relation, the suggestion is labelled as inferred.

Delivery

The platforms are Next.js applications served behind nginx, with Cloudflare caching in front. The code of this website loads no third-party scripts and sets no tracking cookies; fonts are self-hosted.
